Nelson Eddy Scholarship Fund

The Nelson Eddy Scholarship Fund was begun in appreciation of the distinguished contributions made to the world of music by Mr. Nelson Eddy by the members of the Nelson Eddy Music Club and Nelson Eddy International Club, which presented a Scholarship in Voice to the Juilliard School of Music on June 29, 1945. The first recipient was William Hoffman of Fort Wayne, IN. The next recipient was Stephen Harbachick. In the summer of 1951 the Dean of Music at Juilliard, Dean Mark Schubart, reported that Stephen was an outstanding student with a fine future.

Over the years the Fund continued its work through a series of metamorphisis. Today's fund is chaired by Gloria Pollack. The Scholarship proceeds no longer go to Juilliard, but to a hand-picked baritone who must audition before an NEAS panel in order to win the scholarship. Some of the recent recipients have been Markus Beam, John Miles and Gregory Keil, who have all gone on to exciting careers in music. We have had the great pleasure of having some of these fine performers appear at Cambridge Springs.

Monies for this fund are derived from donations of cash and memorabilia raffles. Many members wish to donate their collections to institutions, but due to the reduction in funds available for this purpose, fans are finding that institutions cannot accept such bequeathments as they do not have the resources to index and store a miscellany of memorabilia. So please give thought to bequeathing your collection to the NEAS where your precious items will not only find a loving home, but will also be furthering music education in Nelson Eddy's name.
